Down in New London, CT at the Hygienic Art Gallery, their new exhibition showcases many eye catching works of art.
A close friend of mine, who goes by the artist’s name of Lyra Glass (she/her) , exhibited her creation titled “Cat’s Eye Symmetry”. This piece uses images she edits to create visuals her audience can observe by using stereoscopic glasses. Stereoscopy is a technique for creating or enhancing the illusion of depth in an image by means of stereopsis for binocular vision.
Her inspiration comes from science, space, and the pursuit of information. The Universe is so vast that we sometimes forget to appreciate it’s beauty, as it is the “first” creation (non-religiously speaking).
There is more than one way of seeing. I hope people feel some sort of awe ,by physics and how the Universe works, after viewing my work. That’s one thing I’d want people to take away from their experience with my stereoscopic pieces.
Her artwork and creations provide her audience with a way to ,literally, see differently. Glass’s passion about physics and patterns in imagery keeps her motivated to create works that are stunning, and thought provoking. What other ways of seeing have we not considered? What are the different view points we can take to fully grasp the things we hadn’t understood?
It was a beautiful moment for me, to see another artist take pride in their work. Displaying our creations is an intimidating feat. We must love our creations simply because we created them, it is one of the wonderful things about being human in this Universe that I feel many folks take for granted. So get out there and make! Share! be inspired!
