Where is your community?
hi there,
Maybe you’ve noticed an uptick in loneliness and a lack of community. Have you been feeling disconnected from the people around you? With the rise of electronic communication, outsourcing, and cars it seems we do more to communicate with others but end up less connected.
I’ve been asking myself “ Who is my community?” but it’s not what I thought. My community is more than the people I choose to talk to regularly. It’s my neighbors and store clerks. It’s the third place I hangout when I’m not at home or work. My community consists of hosts, teachers, and co-workers. Maybe your community is the cashier at the coffee shop who makes sure they got your order right. Medium iced black coffee, less ice, an 3-4 pumps of vanilla bean coolata swirl. It could be your mail carrier or store clerk.
Sometimes your community is/are your family and friends. Those who get together often and support you when you need someone to lean on while you go through hard times. It’s those people who know how to support you who create a foundation for you to stand on and balance what you carry.
It is hard to carry the weight of the world when our communities are broken. This shows me we are not as in touch with our environment as we once thought, because if we became united in our communities we would be resilient to the tall waves that life throws at us.
So, I hope you try to simply see these people who are in your community, and pass them some gratitude. Maybe get to know them, you could need them someday.
Thanks for being here
